ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT
UNIVERSIDAD DE LOS ANDES Y UNIVERSIDAD DE ZURICH
This project investigates a communal courtyard on a private lot in the heart of the historic district of Mompox, Colombia. The archaeological site is a rarity in Latin America, as most common areas of urban courtyards from the Spanish colonial period were subdivided and rebuilt. The findings are interpreted within the context of historical and ethnographic data. The historical research is based on archival studies in Seville, Spain, and Bogotá, Colombia. The ethnographic analysis investigates social practices related to the use of community water resources in the area surrounding Mompox.
MANDATORY COMMUNITY SERVICE MOMPOX
This program is aimed at 10th and 11th grade students who require completing a mandatory community service to graduate from high school. It consists of a week-long program with peers from Mompox doing social, environmental and cultural activities. This fosters dialogue and exchange among young people. Students from schools in Bogotá (Helvetia, Newman, Fontan, and Campoalegre) and two schools in Mompox (Instituto Normal Superior de Mompo and Colegio Santa Cruz) have participated.
