CULTURAL LABORATORY

Our Cultural Experiences Lab fosters interaction with the local area. This interaction results in workshops, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, and other activities open to the public. We offer a weekly Film Club, cooking workshops, pottery workshops, and other cultural initiatives.

El Boga presents film series dedicated to different cultural, social, and territorial themes. The screenings take place every Friday and are open to the public.
As an extension of this initiative, El Boga has expanded its reach through Cine al Barrio, a traveling experience that brings cinema to different neighborhoods of Mompox, activating everyday spaces and strengthening the community bond through audiovisual projection.

El Boga is conceived as a living laboratory of cultural experiences, a space where ideas are transformed processes into meaningful relationships. Through its daily work, El Boga articulates activities, research, and projects that engage in dialogue with the local community, recognizing it as the origin and strength of everything we do.

We work hand in hand with artisans, bearers of tradition, and keepers of knowledge from the Mompox region, whose practices, stories, and ancestral wisdom nourish every initiative. This constant exchange transforms the house into a place where contemporary creation meets the living memory of the territory, giving rise to sensitive, collaborative, and transformative experiences.

Below we present a selection of projects and works that reflect the power of these encounters and the diversity of processes that have emerged within the house.

Pauta Corpórea is a collective dedicated to the creation, training, and exploration of movement. A space where bodies meet, communicate, and create.

Their work incorporates diverse methodologies from the study of dance, such as contemporary dance, improvisation, partnering , and disciplines like yoga, acrobatics, and circus arts, among others. It is also adaptable to different environments, aiming to blur the boundaries between observer and performance, thus creating a collective experience that invites spectators to engage and participate.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with  Ximena Rozo Design, we held a face-to-face co-creation design workshop in Mompox in November 2022.

Colombian artisans specializing in carpentry, blacksmithing, weaving, and pottery collaborated with three designers with extensive international experience. This collaboration resulted in a collection of utilitarian objects that reflect the rich cultural heritage of our country, offering a contemporary aesthetic and reaching both national and international markets.

Founded in 1940, the National Salon of Artists has established itself as one of the most important contemporary art events in the country. Its 46th edition (2022), titled “Inaudito Magdalena,” brought works by more than 180 national and international artists to 23 municipalities along the Magdalena River. The work “Hipos in Gravitas,” a video installation by artists Elkin Calderón Guevara and Diego Piñeros Garcia, was exhibited at El Boga.

The renowned contemporary dance company El Colegio del Cuerpo, based in Cartagena de Indias, held body awareness and movement workshops at El Boga. Designed to connect with and explore the power of the moving body, the workshops were open to all ages.

In June 2023, the first Traditional Games Festival was held in Santa Cruz de Mompox, in the La Loba de Simón district. The initiative was developed in collaboration with the Malibú Indians Dance School of La Loma de Simón. This community gathering celebrated local traditions and playful heritage.

The festival featured tournaments in spinning tops, marbles, and dominoes, as well as family circle games, dance performances, and a food bazaar. It was made possible thanks to the support of the San Cayetano neighborhood's Community Action Board and the community.
