//Journalist, filmmaker and cultural manager

Mariana White Londoño was born in Medellín in 1995. She spent her childhood, adolescence and part of her youth in her maternal grandmother’s house, living with her grandmother, grandfather, mother, two aunts, her cousin (a brother for life) and an uncle.

She studied Journalism at the Universidad de Antioquia and soon gained experience writing for the newspaper De la Urbe and working as a videographer for the Centro Colombo Americano de Medellín. For her degree project, she made an autobiographical documentary, ‘Las Gaviotas’ (The Seagulls), realizing that video would be her main language of expression. In 2023 she won the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award for her narrative feature ‘Punta Soldado: Los desplazados del mar’ (Punta Soldado: The Displaced of the Sea). She has produced and directed reports and documentaries for El Tiempo, Mutante, Imagia Video and, most recently, the National Center for Historical Memory (Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica).

From 2020 to 2025, she was part of Un Nuevo Error, a casa taller (artists’ house and workshop) in Medellín’s Belén Granada neighborhood, the same neighborhood where she grew up. There she shared the space with artists and others developing their creative projects. Mariana is currently making a documentary about her experiences at Un Nuevo Error, after the house was sold and demolished to make way for a supermarket. Drawing on archival footage, she places that cultural space in dialogue with Casa Taller El Boga in Mompox, and reflects on what self-managed cultural centers in Colombia are and could become. She is also a member of Red Archipiélago, a network of community film exhibitors in different parts of Colombia.
